CRC Article 3

Your best interests come first

When adults decide about you, your best interests must come first. They should listen, then explain how they weighed what you need to be safe and well.

How you can use it

  1. 1Write or record what would keep you safe and well.
  2. 2Say: “Please explain how my best interests were considered.”
  3. 3Ask for the decision and review date in writing.

What a violation looks like

Adults say “because I said so” and cannot explain how the decision keeps you safe.

Words you can use

“Please explain how my best interests were considered.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
