These shields apply in many places

Police, hospitals, mental-health units, residential placements and contractor-run locked places can still be covered. You can report cruel treatment even if a private company runs the place.

How you can use it

1. 1Write the name of the place and the unsafe practice.
2. 2Tell an independent inspector, lawyer, doctor or trusted adult and ask to speak privately.
3. 3Request protection, medical care and a complaint number.

What a violation looks like

A setting claims it is outside the rules because a contractor operates it.

“This place is covered. I want an independent complaint even if a contractor runs it.”
