Level 5: Equal for every child

CRPD Article 11

Emergencies must include you

You can ask to be included in emergency plans, accessible alerts, evacuation transport and disaster protection.

How you can use it

  1. 1Ask how you will get alerts, transport and a safe place in an emergency.
  2. 2Say: “Please include my communication and mobility needs in the plan.”
  3. 3If you are left out, tell a caseworker, school or disability advocate.

What a violation looks like

An evacuation plan leaves children with mobility or communication disabilities without transport or information.

Words you can use

“Please include me in the emergency plan, including transport and alerts I can use.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
