A detained child must be treated humanely
If you are detained, you should be separate from adults where required, treated humanely, and given education, family contact and a lawyer.
How you can use it
- 1Ask to speak to a lawyer and your family.
- 2Tell a lawyer, doctor or inspector about conditions and whether adults are housed with you.
- 3Request humane treatment, medical care and legal review.
What a violation looks like
A child is held with adults in cruel conditions, or denied a lawyer or family contact.
Words you can use
“I want a lawyer, family contact, and to be kept apart from adults.”
If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
