CRC Article 24 · ICESCR Article 12

You have the right to health care you understand

You can see a doctor or nurse about pain, worry, food, water or mental health. Choices should be explained in a way you understand.

How you can use it

  1. 1Tell a doctor, nurse, school or carer what the problem is.
  2. 2Say: “Please explain the treatment, risks and choices.”
  3. 3If care is refused or unsafe, ask for the manager or a patient advocate.

What a violation looks like

You are denied a doctor, given treatment without explanation, or shamed for asking.

Words you can use

“Please explain the treatment, risks and choices in a way I understand.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
