ICCPR Article 16 · CRPD Article 12
The law must treat you as a person
You can hold and enforce rights. You can ask for identity documents and supported decision-making, not have every choice taken away.
How you can use it
- 1Ask for identity documents and legal representation.
- 2Say: “Please give me accessible information and support to decide, not decide everything for me.”
- 3If an authority refuses to recognise you, ask a lawyer or advocate.
What a violation looks like
An authority will not give documents or pretends a child cannot have rights.
Words you can use
“Please recognise me as a person before the law and help me get my documents.”
If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
