Level 2: Family and home

CRC Article 20

A home in care must be suitable for you

If you cannot live with your family, you still have the right to a suitable, safe home that respects culture, siblings, language, disability and contact.

How you can use it

  1. 1Tell your caseworker what makes a home safe for you.
  2. 2Say: “I want to be involved in choosing a suitable placement.”
  3. 3Ask for the reasons and next review date in writing.

What a violation looks like

You are placed somewhere unsafe, far from siblings or culture, with no say.

Words you can use

“This placement is not safe or suitable for me. I want a review.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
