Level 3: Voice and fairness

CRC Articles 14 and 30 · ICCPR Article 18

You can have your own beliefs

You can think, believe and, where it is safe, practise your religion or have no religion. A placement should not force a belief on you.

How you can use it

  1. 1Explain your beliefs or that you need space from a belief.
  2. 2Ask for reasonable, safe accommodation in the placement.
  3. 3If you are forced or banned without a real safety reason, ask an advocate to review it.

What a violation looks like

A placement bans your religion, or forces you to join a belief system.

Words you can use

“Please respect my beliefs and do not force me to practise a religion.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
