Level 3: Voice and fairness

CRPD Article 12

Support to decide, not a takeover

You should get accessible information and support to make decisions, instead of adults automatically deciding everything.

How you can use it

  1. 1Ask for information in a format you understand.
  2. 2Say: “Please support my decision. Do not just substitute yours.”
  3. 3Ask an advocate if someone is taking over your choices.

What a violation looks like

An authority substitutes its decision without giving accessible information or support.

Words you can use

“Please support my decision instead of deciding for me.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
