Level 3: Voice and fairness

ICCPR Articles 21 and 22

You can join peaceful groups

You can join a peaceful youth, cultural or community group. A ban needs a real, proportionate child-safety reason.

How you can use it

  1. 1Tell a carer or caseworker which peaceful group you want to join.
  2. 2Ask whether there is a lawful safety reason if they say no.
  3. 3If the ban is unfair, ask an advocate to challenge it.

What a violation looks like

Authorities ban a peaceful youth or cultural group with no real safety reason.

Words you can use

“I want to join this peaceful group. Please explain any safety limit.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
