ICCPR Article 26 · CERD Articles 1 and 5

Equal protection of the law

You can challenge unequal treatment and ask for the same legal protection and service access as other children.

How you can use it

  1. 1Write how the treatment was worse because of who you are.
  2. 2Say: “I want equal protection without discrimination.”
  3. 3Ask a complaints body, lawyer or advocate for a remedy.

What a violation looks like

A child gets a worse assessment solely because they are Indigenous, disabled, female or a non-citizen.

Words you can use

“I want equal protection and the same service access as other children.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
