ICCPR Article 12 · CRPD Article 18
You can ask about movement and travel
You have rights around movement, residence and leaving or returning to Australia, subject to lawful, necessary limits. Disability is not a reason to refuse documents or travel.
How you can use it
- 1Ask why a movement or travel limit is being used.
- 2Say: “Please explain the lawful, necessary reason.”
- 3Ask a lawyer or advocate to review an unnecessary restriction.
What a violation looks like
A child is stopped from leaving a placement or returning to Australia with no individual, lawful reason.
Words you can use
“Please explain the lawful reason for stopping my movement.”
If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
