CAT Articles 1 and 2 · ICCPR Article 7

Torture is never allowed

Nobody — including officials — may intentionally cause severe pain to punish you, scare you or get information. An emergency or an order is not an excuse.

How you can use it

  1. 1Get to safety and seek medical care if you can.
  2. 2Tell a lawyer, doctor, police officer, inspector or trusted adult what was done.
  3. 3Ask for an independent investigation and protection from retaliation.

What a violation looks like

An official intentionally inflicts severe pain on a child, or a service claims an emergency allows it.

Words you can use

“This is not allowed. I need an independent investigation and protection now.”

If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
