CRC Article 40
Youth justice should be fair and help you grow
If you are accused of an offence, you have the right to a child-rights lawyer, an explanation, a fair hearing and an age-appropriate plan.
How you can use it
- 1Ask immediately for a child-rights lawyer and an interpreter if you need one.
- 2Do not sign or answer questions you do not understand.
- 3Ask the court to consider education and support. Ask about review or appeal.
What a violation looks like
A child is treated as an adult, denied a lawyer, or punished with no fair process.
Words you can use
“I want a lawyer and an explanation I understand. I do not want to sign yet.”
If speaking is hard, write it, draw it, send a message, or ask a trusted adult to say it with you.
